Having rebuilt the squad and had an encouraging pre-season it was time to get down to business. The campaign would open with a home game against our affiliate club Tuttocuoio and it would prove to be an excellent start as we were 3 up after 17 minutes through Bezzy and debut goals for Giulio Maggiore and Michael ‘Fabby’ Fabbro. We totally dominated the game and although we conceded 2 penalties the 4-2 final scoreline completely flattered Tuttocuoio.
In our 2nd game, at home to Como, we again dominated but were guilty of conceding silly goals. However, Mendo popped up with a 90th minute winner as we won 3-2. Overall it was an excellent start but we had still conceded 4 goals in 2 games. A Fabby hat trick away to Pro Patria gave us maximum points from 3 games as we prepared to travel to Livorno for the first big clash of the season.
Livorno were predicted to win the division and would undoubtedly still be smarting from the 4-1 spanking we gave them in last seasons play-offs. It was a cagey affair and although we created more chances it was Livorno that took the lead after 71 minutes. Last season we would have crumbled at this point but we regrouped and Bezzy managed to get us an equaliser in the 80th minute for a share of the spoils.
Another Fabby hat trick earned us a 3-1 win at home against Cremonese before we drew 0-0 away to Pro Piacenza, which was our first clean sheet of the season. We would then win our next four fixtures to go unbeaten for the opening 10 games of the season. It’s been a fantastic start and our team is really beginning to gel now. We have real quality in our loan signings, according to their coach reports all of them have the potential to play at a higher than level than where we are at just now. In particular, Fabbro has been a star scoring 10 goals in 10 with Mendicino just behind him on 8. Looking like it could be a productive season.
