Beware the Ides of March

After a positive start I had a poor run of results through February and March with a failure to convert chances being the biggest concern. Losing to runaway league leaders Alessandria was no disgrace but consecutive home 0-0 draws against teams around us in the league was unacceptable. To be honest there isn’t a lot to say about the matches. With the exception of the two defeats we created more chances than the opposition in every game so we are clearly doing something right. Need to take those chances.

Of more pressing concern is the clubs financial situation. We are now nearly £2m in debt and we have no players worth anything near that (our most valuable player is worth £235k) so I’m not sure how the board are going to get out of it. Big decisions will need to be made at the end of the season. Given the club was founded in 2014 after the bankruptcy of the previous club, that had played in Serie A for 9 seasons from 2003, the board are showing some impressive mismanagement.

I am also loving our badge that has a wolf on it. According to a legend Siena was founded by Senius and Aschius, two sons of Remus. When they fled Rome, they took the statue of She-wolf to Siena, which became a symbol of the town. I also discovered that current Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was Siena gaffer for season 2010/11 before getting the Juventus gig so I have some big shoes to fill. We have a weird wee stadium that has lots of separate stands and is hidden away by lots of trees. This is presumably so it doesn’t detract from the picturesque surroundings. Holds an impressive 15,000. Also, check out the towns coat of arms. Pretty shite.
